I bought this bike a couple weeks ago. I really enjoy tinkering with these old V twins. I've had a couple 1982 920s about 15 years ago. This one is a bit different but still starts like an early Virago. This one has a front cylinder flooding problem, but I'll sort it out. I do get it going o.k. though and its a hoot to ride.

When the TR1 was introduced back in 81 I fell in love with it but was 17 years old and stoney Broke. So I saved my pennies and waited for a shot. Didn't get a chance to buy one till 28 years later but I finally got one in March 2009 and she's a beaut. It was worth the wait.

I saw an XV1000 when they first came out in 1981 and it was love at first sight. I did 80,000 ks on that first one (a lot of that two up) without the slightest problem. Over 20 years later and other type bikes in between, and i knew i wouldnt be happy till i was back on another XV. Now I have two and just love them. Riliable, easy to ride, great on dirt roads and in the wet. I wish that they were still available new, Id buy one tomorrow! Thanks for the great site.

Hi Manfred! Echt klasse Site die du da hast. Na ja, mit der Vorbildung kein Wunder. Meinen Namen hast ja in der Addi. Bin gerade durch alte Unterlagen gegangen und habe Briefe mit den Einladungen zu dem 5. , 6. + 7. TR1 Treffen in Schotten/Falltorhaus gefunden. Gruss Dieter

I've had my bike for 20 years. Love it! It is fortunately in Like New condition. Unfortunately these bikes were only imported to the US for 2 years and are quite rare. I just learned that the 920 HR was called the TR1 in Europe and is more common. Maybe now I'll have a source for parts; of course I've never had a problem except the starter and that was fixed will a weld many years ago.

Sooty plug solved!!! Last year my bike had failure of one petcock, so I replaced it. It appeared the other petcock was ok, but I just discovered it leaked just a little bit into the vacuum hose connected to the intake plenum. It is drawing some gas into the tube and then into the engine, creating a very rich mixture that really causes engine sputtering at low speed. I noticed a little gas leaking into the carb tube, so I sucked on the petcock vacuum and GAS drew out! A new one costs $100, so I just ordered it. I'll report back when I've tried it. Thank you, thank you very much. Frank

I have an '81 xv750, i have the typical noisy starter issue. It's a great bike, although it could have a bit more top end, I have rewired it to remove all the problems with the kickstand ground and a few other minor difficulties. The bike had 1100 km's on it when i got it and ive since doubled the milage without any major issues, just a problem with the linkage between the carbs being sloppy and having one cylinder have fuel applied before the other. I want to put in a 1000 cc or a 920 in it, though i would settle for taller gears in the diff for a bit more speed. Great bike overall.

Curious about the Yamaha V-twins since their American release in'81, I helped a friend build an '82 (920rj) which ultimately won the Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association "Open Twins" championship in that year.
