Title: TR1 build #2, off road / dirt track
Post by mrmadmax on 01.02.14 at 11:21:35

Since my first TR1 build is more or less ready (the black one in pic below & separate thread at this forum) I have started on a second project. The first one is for tarmac so I thought I complement with something that could handle some off road driving, at least gravel roads.

Step one is to mount 17" wheels and take it for some test drives to see if it's any fun to run off road. Step two will be cosmetics, new tank, dirt-track-saddle etc... For the moment stalled waiting for some parts so I am more surfing around on webpages for inspiration & spaming pages like this  ;)

I'm might put air filters directly on the carburators, has anyone done that without modifing the settings on the carburtors? Pro's / Con's?

Cheers!

Hi, with the 17" wheels, she Looks a little like on high heels.
You get a lot of problems with the air filters directly on the carburetors.

High heels!   ;D Yes, you are right, it looks a bit better with the off road tires and when standing on ground (without the center kick stand). Will see later how it turns out along the way...

Carb's & air filters, yes I assumed so, then I will not go that way to start with, don't want to mess with the settings to much with these vacuum carburators... Thanks for the advice!

wow, i really like the black one. Could you please give some details of the build? i would like to know what kind of hubs did you use for the front and rear wheel, which gas tank did you use. did you make the subframe yourself or did you purchased it somewhere? And which fork brace did you usedAs you can see a lot of questions. I hope i am not too annoying, by being so nosy.

Thanks, more info and link to long building thread (in Swedish) now available in the gallery page 4, it has transformed several times trough the years... Real amature as you can see but one learns by trying  :) Current set up is Kawasaki Vulcan wheels, xv750 tank, home made sub frame... Fork brace, is that the same as the "gabel stabilisator"? If so, it is a tarozzi I think. Otherwise the fornt forks are orginal but shortened and lowered and cleaned up...

The off road build has come far enough for a short test ride :) Need to get a digital speedo in place as well and a few details... Then it should be street legal but all the cosmetics with new tank, seat etc remains to be done... As is, ugly but working :)

Also have some projects to be done for the black one before the riding season starts, will at least try get a steering damper in place, had a couple of tank slappers... Couldn't resist to add a few old clips with the black one as well to youtube  ;)
