Title: Motor runs on one cilinder
Post by derbibass on 29.02.16 at 11:52:27

Hello,

A couple of months ago i bought a yamaha tr1. Bought a new battery, oil filter, bougies and oil. I have ultrasonically cleaned the carbs, but still the engine doesnt run proper on 2 cilinders. I know i have to search for the carburateur, because when i switched the carburateurs the other engine doesnt run proper. I have made some movies from my problem.

The last movie is when the engine has run like 20 min.

where can i find the problem in the carbs ?

I cannot check the engine because it is not running. i'm building a cafe racer

You have to spark an ignition?
It may be that your TCI is too old and is on a channel, no current to the spark plug.
Also make sure that you do not have power, and whether the cable / connector okay, is often error.

check the plug is sparking on the bad cylinder
if it has  strong blue spark you can rule that one out
check for compression if it's good you can rule that one out
check the carb manifold rubbers for splits and check for air leaks
did you set the the float levels correctly.
check all these things first and let us know the results

That sounds like the TR of John, he had the same problem. We checked it this way:
We took off the rubber-hoses of the Air- intakes and watched the sliders moving while the engine was running , and: one of them was stucked. The diaphragm was OK, but the little hole on the bottom of the slider was closed with some dirt. We just mounted another Slider-thanks to Herbert- and everything was fine.
May be it helps,
Ali

i did all almost all of those things, What do you mean by manifold rubbers ?

It has to be the carburateur, because when i switched them, the other cilinder stops running. But it is weird because ive cleaned them ultrasonicly. So im a little bit llost

Did you take out the tube and the jets below it still sounds like dirt somewhere

Ultrasound is often overrated. You can clean glasses and wristwatch-bands with it, but if it comes to clogged carburetors its often better to remove all removable parts and clean them with carb cleaner, a brush and compressed air. www.erc-online.de/erc-additiv/produkte/produktfinder/vergaserreiniger/

I just found something.

There's a little sprinkler in my float tank.  On the left carburateur the little sprinkler doesnt work the way the other side works. Tried to clean it with all kinds of chemicals, but de sprinkler does not let de gasoline by. So i think this is the problem.

Does somebody have a float tank for my tr1 from 1984 ?

Kind regards bas

There is a micro-filter in the Carburateur, often will it be closed with rust.
You must put out the floating valve of, and clean the micro-filter......

Good Luck!

I was talking about the lower tray at the bottom of the carburateur. There is a tiny hole and a think a really tiny sprinkler. This is for stationaire rpm. I know one of them is not clean enough tot let all the gasoline by. But i do not know how i have to get this tiny sprinkler out.

I tried to clean it with a lot of chemicals, but still it isnt working properly.

Is that the place where i can find the micro filter and how do ik get this tiny thing out ?

The jet in the float bowl is for the choke, wenn the engine is warmed up a little it should run on both cylinders because the choke is only needed for starting the cold engine.

The small filter sits on the float needle valve.
