1200cc engine capacity
26.02.14 at 20:41:31

Hello

I would like to increase the engine capacity of my TR1 to 1200cc. If anyone has experience of doing this can you please advise?

I have increased the capacity of my current engine from the existing 980 to 1063 by fitting XV1100 crankshaft, conrods and barrels. (Bore 95mmm x stroke 75mm.)
I understand that to take the capacity to 1200cc I will also need to take the bore out from 95mm to 100.9mm to bring each cylinder capacity to 600cc. (If my maths is right.)

My questions are:
1. Can I use the existing barrel liners and increase the bore size by 5.9mm or do I need to use different liners? Will the liner walls be too thin? If I need to use different liners are there any from other bikes that I can use?
2. What pistons can I use? Piston pin and pin height the same as an XV1100 but with a larger diameter, 100.9mm.
3. Is there anything else that I need to consider? Carb jets? Are the TR1 heads still suitable or are the XV750 heads the best option? Anything else?

Thank you
Kevin

Hi Kevin, with 101 mm, your Barrels are thin like  paper..................... You need new made Barrels, your case must be opened.
In our big engine, we use 102 mm Pistons from the Porsche RS - aircooled. but the costs are more than the win.
And with the original carbs and exhaust, you dont feel so much from this work. Take a pair of 40 mm Dellorto PHM with open intake trumpets
and 750 heads. This is for a street bike the best choice.

Racing is the answer, but I don't remember the question!

Hello Sepp

Thanks for the advice. You have saved me a lot of time here.

I already have two 750 heads so I will go for the head and carb change.

Regards
Kevin

OK Kevin, for the Dellorto PHM (Guzzi form) you need a pair of  Mikuni intake rubber (i dont know the name)
between carbs and cylinder head. they have the number VM 38-200. Send you a photo next days.

Hi Kevin, now the photos. Nr. one at the bike with the short intake trumpet (from the original frame).
Second with the Long intake trumpet, think this one is better for the english weather............................. Grin
Otherwise you can use aloy trumpets.
