Can anyone advise please? I bought my tr1 few weeks back and began to investigate the source of the many rattly noises from the top end. Valve clearance seems ok- I have followed the instructions in manual, but should the specified clearance become greater as the camshaft rotates past the timing marks? I removed the camshaft tensioners to find the ratchet mechanism past the end of it's travel - is it possible for the chains to have stretched to this degree? Removing the cam sprocket covers the chains seem to be quite slack. The engine spits and bangs when I close the throttle, and when I hit 5000rpm the power dies - carb sync? The inlet manifold stubs seem to be slightly perished - tiny bubbles are visible with soapy water. Could this cause a weak mix and the misfire? The exhaust note on one side is quite smooth, whilst the other gives a pronounced "thump" On the subject of starter problems, my bike appears to be fitted with a Lucas, UK manufactured, solenoid which doesn't seem original Yamaha. If anyone is interested I can get more info on this as a route to curing what seem to be common starting problems. Thanks guys
