Hi. I need a starter motor or parts for my engine rebuild. I would be grateful if anyone has a spare.
Thanks

Get yourself one from the 1100 Virago. It´s easier to get and it´s better

Thanks Leroy.
Do all 1100 Viragos have the long shaft starter motor. I'm confused as I had been told that only later XV 1000 & 750 shared the TR1 starter?

Maybe that can help you, or for another interested TR1 Driver, who wants to repair a starter.....

Thanks Alex
I also found the starter on Ebay.com. The American guy selling them says he doesn't have one for TR1 but I think that is because they never had our model in the USA.
However he does say that his new uprated 4 pole starters (1984 xv1000) replace part number 5AS  81800-60-00. (which is a long shaft one).
Can anyone verify if this is the TR1 part number?
thanks
Gerry

Thanks. All those that replied. The cost of new or used starters in the UK is unbelivable. Looking at the USA and Canada, prices and availability are good. The one's on E Bay appear best. Two part numbers are specified. 5A-81800-60-00 is the number from Yamaha UK, but some USA sources use 5A-81800-10-00 as Ok for both XV1000 & XV1100. I thought that this was because the 1100 used a 4 pole motor. I purchased one from a guy with a handle of '14 rebuilders' on E Bay under the 60 number and he assures me that it is also the more powerful 4 pole one. £87 including UPS delivery, half the cheapest price I found in the UK.
All I need now is the Actuation Solenoid, part number 5A8-86110-50-00. Does anyone have a spare?
