Rear Shock renovation (Read 2855 times)

Jack_Russell Ex Member	Rear Shock renovation 21.06.16 at 17:25:40 I am building a project from a 1983 TR1 and I want to retain the rear shock as an original feature. I know yamaha state its a non servicable part but does anyone know how to get the damn thing apart for blasting and powder coating. I've had it in soak for 4 days and the collars just do not want to move Thanks in advance

In general you need a pair of spring compressors to press the spring together, then you can somehow remove the plate that holds the spring and take the spring off. The rest of the shock can not be disassembled i believe.

I know Yamaha says it is not serviceable but I also know I have read of people swapping the OEM spring for a progressive spring so there must be a way to get the spring off.. Is there a pin or a clip on the collar as the collar does not seem to work like collars from more modern shocks that just slide off with a slot..?

I use some sort of lashing straps to pull the spring down, bring the collar down some millimeters. You will see the clip then. After removing it the collar comes off. Be carefull, Ali
