Couple strange things in my TR1

Hello,

I finally got my TR1 back on the road, after five years, and I am happily over 1500km now. However there are few things that needs explanation.
- Alignment of cranksaft and camsafts. Odly, I find both cams precisely ½teeth off (advanced) when I place the cranksaft in TDC mark. I am 100% sure that I assembled the cam chain gears so that the dots on the gear and crank gears were aligned. So, what a heck? Do I need to check the generator fly-wheel installation onto crank or are the gears still off or what? BTW Engine runs OK but I find it guite slow to rev.
- Knocking sound. Well this was the initial reason why I disassembled the whole engine and changed the connecting rod bearings. I also changed the axles of cam chain gears. I tried to check the piston pins, roller bearings and all gears as well but I found nothing. Now when the engine is running again I can still hear the knock as prior the engine repair. Odly, it doesn't seem to be related to engine load i.e. I can hear it when the engine is idling and as well when I engage 1st gear and slowly lift the clutch - no difference there. The knock might, I am not sure, come from the front (syl2) head. However I didn't anything strange on the cam or the mechanics there.

So, I would be happy to hear on your experiences and/or guesses what could be reasons for the strange things I have found.

Best Regards. Pekka and TR1 from rainy Finland

The marks on the camshaft never align exactly with the marks on the cylinder head. This is because the camshaft chain becomes longer over the time, and because the chain tensioner only pushes onto the chain at one side. So the mark wanders off to that side. If you mount the chain in such a way, that the mark differs into the other dirction, the engine runs but has no power.

Gruss,
Georg
