tr1 midnight special
11.08.13 at 10:16:27

Hello, my name is Jos. is there anyone who has photos of a tr1 midnight special?
I want to rebuild my xv 920 as a midnight special.
And now being here anyway, does anyone know something about the simularity with a Vincent Black Shadow? maybe photograps? It looks like if the Yamaha engeneers took over the Vincent Black Shadow concept (brilliant idea btw)

gr Jos

If you remove the rear subframe and bolt a single seat directly to the front frame, you may get a vague similarity with a Vincent, but only about as close as a Golf and Ferrari, if you don't mind the comparison.

Cheers,
Greg

I do mind,i wouldn't dare to compare a Vincent with a golf ,it was a rather good bike for the time.
I was just curious about the story behind the tr1 concept.

More important is the image of the tr1 midnight special .
thx for your reaction

Hi Jos,
the bike you`re talking about is called: Yamaha XV 1000 SE Midnight Special.
A friend of mine has got two of this pieces. One in original condition with only 8500 KMs, which he wants to sell.I`ll try to make some pitcures when I visit him next time, but it can take some time.
I`m self tried the Midnight Special, but I prefer the TR1.

regards

as a matter of fact the Vincent was more of the Ferrari, than the Golf to be honest...  embarrassed

Here's one, which you probably already know:

Are you after some specifici pictures ?

hmm different points of view.
kidding ,i know you're right, the Vincent is probably the best bike ever build, but out of my league, the second best (for me).
The TR1, better fits to my budget and i always liked the midnight special xv 1000 se (tr1 in black) with chain was build in 1980/ 81 or so
The pic you sent me (thx for taking the trouble) shows the virago type.Till now I couldn't find any picture of it as if it never existed.
The people i already asked about this bike looked at me as if they were hearing a thunderstorm in Koeln, not knowing what i was talking about.
grtz

Hi Seawolf
thx for the response
That indeed is the one I mean (i think)
Why do you prefer the TR1? I Mean what is the difference?
The midnight special I mean is pretty much a black TR1 with golden striping and golden wheels.
I recently bought an xv 920 amarican edition with lots of chrome, And now after 30 years ,the chome comes of ,partly.
I want to rebuild it and give it the MS look as good as possible, as i discovered that this is the bike for me.
Previously I owned a TR1,3 Harleys and a Triumph but none of them gave me the same joy as i had with my TR1.
So now the xv 920( chain)....

If you are able to take some photographs pls use a high resolution and drop them on the web. it seems the are no pictures of it at all.

grtz Jos

Hello

There was a Midnight Special at the TR1 Rally in Walschronn last weekend. The driver and bike arrived on the last day. I do not have any photos of it but someome else who attended may have.

I agree with the comment above, it looked like a standard TR1 with the exhaust in black chrome and the paintwork in black and gold.

Regards
Kevin
