Jumping out of gear
10.06.01 at 23:18:00

Hi Folks
Has anyone had a problem with their TR1 slipping into a false neutral when slowing down?
If you slide your foot off and let the lever spring back after changing down it never happens, If you leave your foot on the lever though its crunch clatter.
It does'nt happen very often but ocasionaly under power the gears sometimes miss too.
I remember reading somewhere about a modification to some spring and its seating in the gearbox.
Any ideas?
Many, Many Thanks - Colin

sounds to me like you have a problem with the gear selector (inside engine cases-not the lever!)  I've never had the problem myself, however the yam xs 750's & 850's had that problem, and it is either down to the gear selector return spring, or the pin on the gear selector in the gearbox is worn/bent. you will have to strip it down to find out for sure.

It's never a good idea leaving your foot on the lever. The gear change selector might not properly engage the gear drum in this case and hang between two distinct positions. This happens especially of the gear box has weak return springs. I suggest you always slip your feet of the gear lever as soon as you have shifted to another gear. In that case it wouldn't be neccessary to take to whole engine to parts.
